History of Mapleton
Dating back to the 1880s Mapleton was timber, dairy and citrus
country, set amongst the tropical rainforests of the Blackall
Ranges. A tramway from Nambour was built in 1915 and the men often
had to get off and push the carriages up the steep inclines. It also
carried timber, cream, pigs, cattle and fruit.
The renovated historic Mapleton hotel has stunning views and serves
a good steak.
Locals sell avocadoes, limes, pineapples and macadamia
nuts at roadside stalls - usually $2 into the honesty box.
"It’s exactly what I needed after a very demanding year. The serenity is just a perfect
escape from the hustle and bustle of a huge city like Houston. See you next year."
